ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Interview plus 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above.
Mature students, without the required formal entry qualifications may be accepted subject to interview.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This programme will prepare students for employment within a sport/leisure facility or for progression onto higher-level courses.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This programme will prepare students for employment within a sport/leisure facility or for progression onto higher-level courses. It consists of the City & Guilds NVQ 1 Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations Certificate & the Central YMCA Introductory Certificate in Exercise and Fitness Instructing and includes:
HOW WILL I LEARN?
Attendance will be 3 to 4 days per week. The programme will include weekend and evening study. The programme is 40% academic and 60% practical. Achievement is measured by continual assessment and students will undertake individual and group projects.
WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
Successful students will be encouraged to progress to higher level courses where appropriate. Course progression includes: NVQ 2 Instructing Exercise and Fitness (Gym), and the Central YMCA Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym), NVQ 3 Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise and the Central YMCA Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing (Gym). Typical employment prospects will include working within Leisure/Recreation Centres, Pool Lifeguard, and Assistant Fitness Instructors.
