About this course
The essential requirements are the ability and the will to succeed, self-motivation and enthusiasm, plus a period of Hairdressing work experience, hard working, combined with a cheerful disposition. Students should have 4 GCSEs at D grade and a good educational background, and the ability to communicate verbally and by written work.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: WHAT WILL THE INTERVIEW INVOLVE?
At interview you will receive information about the course and have the opportunity to ask questions. The information will include an explanation of the amount of written/theory work involved on the course including Functional Skills, written (exam) papers and the portfolio of evidence that you will need to produce.
You will be required to complete a written task and undertake a practical task which will involve producing a style on a long hair block.
You will need to bring evidence of your predicted GCSE results and a recent photograph of yourself.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is designed for, and targeted at, those people intent on being part of the Hairdressing Industry. You should have interest, enthusiasm and a commitment to succeed and once accepted on the course will be introduced to all aspects of hairdressing. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be prepared for the challenges of industry and/or progression into further studies leading to advanced career development. You will be given the opportunity to 'learn by doing' within this flexible programme.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Hairdressing: various cutting techniques to create different hair shapes and styles; colouring, bleaching; permanent waving to give hair volume; texture and definition; conditioning; styling techniques; consultation and diagnostics; salon organisation; reception skills; health, safety and security; use of computers; retailing; stock control; teamwork; related Art; interpersonal skills. Opportunities exist for students to obtain further additional qualifications.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
The learning programme incorporates demonstration and student participation, including lectures; discussions, projects, and self directed study, using a multimedia approach where appropriate. Within the programme, students receive full support in their skill development and acquisition of competence. Specialist learning support is available. Students are assessed through practical observation of skills, questioning and portfolio evidence. WORK EXPERIENCE Professional experience is incorporated within a commercial environment both in College and as a structured work experience programme where available located in commercial salons. This promotes increased employment opportunities. As part of the course, the College encourages students to take part in and attend exhibitions.
WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
There is a varied range of opportunities for those with the right outlook and attitude in the world of hairdressing. Successful students can progress to level 3, working in Salons as stylists, salon ownership/self employed, health farms, cruise liners, hospital work, retailing outlets, technician work, manufacturing companies and reception work.
