About this course
There are no formal entry qualifications but a reasonable standard of written English is required. The applicant will also need to have been working (either paid or voluntary) with children for at least 6 months before the start date, for a minimum of 18 hours a week. A reference or confirmation of current employment with children will be required, as well as a CRB check. Please note that childminders must care for at least three children (which cannot be their own) in order to be observed by the assessor.

If you are planning to move into a more managerial position or go to university, then the Level 3 CCLD is a well recognised qualification to achieve.
The course classes are fortnightly, except for the first three Induction Sessions which are weekly. In the second year there is a supported distance learning element.

Information about the courseThe Level 3 CCLD is an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) for people who are working in childcare. It continues your professional development from Level 2 awards and acts as a stepping-stone in your career.
You can complete it if:
You are working in face-to-face roles with children, young people (aged 0-16 years) and families, either supervising others or working unsupervised.
The Level 3 CCLD is made up of 9 units – 5 mandatory units and 4 option units. You need to complete all 9 units to achieve the full certificate.
The mandatory units are:
CCLD 301 Develop and promote positive relationships
CCLD 302 Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for
children
CCLD 303 Promote children’s development
CCLD 304 Reflect on and develop practice
CCLD 305 Protect and promote children’s rights
The optional units that you choose should relate to your current work role. Further details about the optional units will be given at the interview.
AdditionalityWhen will I receive my results?
Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.
ProgressionWhen you complete the Level 3 CCLD, you may go on to take:

- BTEC HNC In Advanced Practice In Work With Children And Families
- BTEC HND In Advanced Practice Work With Children And Families
