This programme is specifically designed for practicing interpreters that feel they have reached a level of skill, knowledge and experience where they are now ready to put themselves forward to become fully qualified through the NVQ assessment system. Suitable for: Candidates who have acheived their NVQ4/6 in British Sign Language and have also undergone additional Interpreting Training and now are ready to complie a portfolio.

About this course

Byron is a qualified interpreter working for Sign Solutions as Head Interpreter. He is an experienced tutor who will be the lead tutor on our Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting courses commencing in 2011.
Course programme
Course review:
This programme is specifically designed for practicing interpreters that feel they have reached a level of skill, knowledge and experience where they are now ready to put themselves forward to become fully qualified through the NVQ assessment system.
The programme comprises of 32 hours of tutor/assessor contact time and includes opportunities to practise skills and to collect some of the range of evidence required and there is also a generous allocation of assessment time, enabling participants to meet with their assessor at regular intervals.
You are guided through each unit of the NVQ, in a staged approach. It includes:
- Clear, detailed explanations of what the NVQ requires and how to build a portfolio
- Guidance and proformas so that you know what information to include
- Live observation
- Feedback on your interpreting performance and strategies to develop your skills
- Opportunities for evidence collection, including filming with members of the Deaf community
The full NVQ6 Interpreting Award comprises of 4 mandatory units, and one optional unit (from a choice of two). Together these units demonstrate occupational competence to interpret in a range of work-related settings. Once all five interpreting units have been successfully completed, the interpreter will be eligible for NRCPD, MRSLI and ASLI Full Member status.
