National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are qualifications, which
assess your ability to work to these standards. Once you have completed the NVQ, you can be sure that employers will understand and value your qualification.

The course includes:

· Assisting with facial treatments
· Assisting with nail treatments on the hands
· Preparing and maintaining the beauty therapy work area
· Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
· Assisting with salon reception duties.

You will be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications
alongside your main course. These will include qualifications in Functional Skills and can also include more specialist awards that are relevant to the subject you are studying.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments are carried out through practical skills tests, observations of you working, completed assignments and projects. You will be able to test your practical skills and knowledge in our commercial clinics.

You will be given plenty of support with coursework and assessments. Tutors and support staff are available to guide you through the different projects and assignments to ensure that you get the most from your NVQ.

Progression
On successful completion you may:

Progress to a Level 2 NVQ in Beauty Therapy or another Level 2 course in a different subject area.

Or

Progress to an Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy, which combines employment and study in an exciting and challenging programme see page 26 for details.

Or

Start an exciting and rewarding career, for example as an Assistant Beautician or Receptionist in a beauty clinic.
Achieving this qualification will give you the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at grades C-E.
