NVQ 1 HAIRDRESSING
Entry Requirements
An interview, a good standard of
education and motivation to be able to work in an independent manner.
Attendance of approximately 14 hours per week which is negotiated with a
member of staff.
Description
This flexible course is aimed at
the mature student returning to hairdressing or wishing to retrain in a
new vocation.
Course Content
- Ladies hairdressing

Practical and theory tasks to NVQ Levels 1 and 2
G1 - Ensure your
own actions reduce risks to health and safety
G2 - Assist with salon
reception duties
G3 - Contribute to the development of effective
working relationships
H1 - Shampoo and condition hair
H5 - Prepare
for hairdressing services and maintain work areas
H37 - Assist with
colouring services
Practical workshops with the theory of essential
knowledge and understanding required to complete assignments and written
tests.
Attendance of at least 85% is necessary in order to complete
the course.
It is expected that all students will enter for the
qualification.
Method of Assessment
The course is
continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments/tests.
Key
Skills
All students will participate in timetabled sessions
designed to enhance skills in Communication and Application of Number.
Students will receive separate certificates on successful completion of
the programme.
Other Studies (enhancement)
Students may also
choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a
previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment
opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built
into the programme.
Other Activities
Students may be required
to participate in a work experience programme as an integral part of the
course, where this is appropriate. The course includes an essential trip
at a cost of approximately £25.
Progression
This course
is a recognised route into a full-time Level 2 course, employment or an
Apprenticeship via a Training Agency.
Fees
Tuition and
registration fees are free for students aged 16-18 as at 31 August 2009
for the course period. Students aged 19+ as at 31 August 2009 will be
required to pay the fees below. You are required to pay a tuition fee for
each year of study. All fees are due at the time of your enrolment. Costs
may vary for international students, please ask for details.
Equipment
Charge
Students will be required to purchase professional workwear,
equipment and products which will be purchased directly from an approved
college supplier. Order forms will be provided during the enrolment period
and the approximate cost is £230.
Consumable Items
Students
will need to purchase text books at approximately £30, a USB memory stick
and headphones.
