NVQ 2 BARBERING
Entry Requirements
Two GCSEs at D or above including English or
progression from NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing.
Description
This
is a two year course, aimed at those interested in men's hairdressing,
however for a motivated student this course can be completed in less than
2 years.
Course Content
G1 - Ensure your own actions reduce
the risks to health and safety
G4 - Fulfill salon reception duties
G5
- Give your clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
G6
- Promote additional products or services to clients
G7 - Advise and
consult with clients
H7 - Cut hair using basic barbering techniques
H8
- Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
H9 - Shampoo and
condition hair and scalp
H18 - Provide scalp massage services

Practical workshops and theory learning with assignments and writtens
It
is expected that all students will enter for the qualification.
Method
of Assessment
The course is continuously assessed with some
external assessment and testing through written and practical
assignments/tests.
Key Skills
All students will participate
in timetabled sessions designed to enhance skills in Communication and
Application of Number. Students will receive separate certificates on
successful completion of the programme.
Other Studies (enhancement)
Students
may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or
to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment
opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built
into the programme.
Other Activities
All courses in
Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy contain work experience in each year.
Attendance at this is an integral part of the students' training. The
course includes an essential trip at an approximate cost of £25. Students
will have an opportunity to undertake optional in-house training with
external companies at a cost of £10.
Progression
This
course is a recognised route into a full-time Level 3 course, employment
or an Apprenticeship via a Training Agency.
Fees
Tuition and
registration fees are free for students aged 16-18 as at 31 August 2009
for the course period. Students aged 19+ as at 31 August 2009 will be
required to pay the fees below. You are required to pay a tuition fee for
each year of study. All fees are due at the time of your enrolment. Costs
may vary for international students, please ask for details.
Equipment
Charge
Students will be required to purchase professional workwear,
equipment and products which will be purchased directly from an approved
college supplier. Order forms will be provided during the enrolment period
and the approximate cost is £240.
Consumable Items
Students
will need to purchase text books at approximately £30 and a USB memory
stick.
