NVQ 2 FRONT OFFICE
Entry Requirements
There are no formal requirements, but
candidates need to have been working in a front office hospitality
environment for a minimum of six months and be working a minimum of 15
hours a week. A skill scan will be carried out to ensure that your current
job role lends itself to the standards at the appropriate level.
Description
This
NVQ is delivered wholly in the work place. You will be allocated a
personal assessor who will utilise the course hours and visits to your
workplace to suit your individual learning needs.
The course
consists of planning and assessment tutorials and observation of your
practice in the workplace.
Course Content
The
qualification is made up of 8 units, 4 mandatory and 4 optional units
appropriate to your hospitality setting
Mandatory units
- Deal
with communications as part of the reception function
- Maintain a
safe, hygienic and secure working environment
- Contribute to effective
teamwork
- Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your
organisation
Plus 2 of the following optional units:
- Deal with
the arrival of customers
- Deal with bookings
- Prepare customer
accounts and deal with departures
- Maintain and deal with payments
Plus
2 of the following units:
- Exchange foreign cash and travellers cheques

Prepare and print documents using a computer
- Record, store and supply
information using a paper-based filing system
- Handle mail and book
external services
- Resolve customer service problems
- Enter,
retrieve and print data in a database
- Identify and provide tourism
related information and advice
Where a course is aimed towards an
assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will enter for
the qualification.
Method of Assessment
Assessment is by
production of a personal portfolio of evidence demonstrating understanding
and application of the NVQ Standards. Evidence will be a mixture of
observation, witness testimony, professional discussion and candidate
evidence.
