NVQ 2 PERFORMING ENGINEERING OPERATIONS (MECHANICAL)
Entry Requirements
Basic education.
Description
This
course provides basic mechanical engineering competencies and provides
those entering the industry or those requiring re-training with a broad
range of engineering skills. It provides a foundation for progression to
further skills development.
Please note this course is competence
based and may require more that one year of attendance to complete, as it
depends on past and current experience. Work based evidence may also be
used.
Course Content
- Working safely in a engineering
environment
- Working effectively and efficiently in engineering

Using and communicating technical information
- Producing mechanical
engineering drawings using a CAD system
- Preparing and using lathes
for turning operations
- Preparing and using milling machines
After
completing this course you should be able to:
- Competently perform
practical tasks to set standards relevant to basic electronic engineering

Have a generalised mastery of the underpinning knowledge to perform
practical tasks.
Where a course is aimed towards an
assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will enter for
the qualification.
Method of Assessment
Mainly practical work
assessments.
Progression
Successful students can progress
onto Mechanical Engineering or other suitable courses in Engineering. This
PEO qualification can also form part or progress onto a Modern
Apprenticeship with the appropriate NVQ at Level 2 or 3.
Materials
A4 folder and paper, basic drawing instruments, scientific
calculator, overalls and stout footwear are also essential.
