NVQ 2 SUPPORTING TEACHING AND LEARNING IN SCHOOLS
Entry Requirements
Access to work in the appropriate setting
for 2 or 3 days a week is required. A guidance meeting will be required
prior to entry. You will be assessed on your key skills of communication
and application of number.

Description
The NVQ 2 in Supporting
Teaching and Learning in Schools is a work based qualification for those
who work with teachers in classrooms supporting the learning process in
primary, secondary and special schools. It is designed for those who wish
to start on the qualification ladder.
Course Content
To
achieve the Level 2 N/SVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools,
candidates must complete all five units in group A, plus two units from
group B (total seven units).

- Contribute to positive relationships
- Provide
effective support for your colleagues
Candidates must complete two
optional units from the following:
- Support literacy and numeracy
activities
- Support the use of information and communication
technology for teaching and learning
- Use information and
communication technology to support pupils' learning
- Observe and
report on pupil performance
- Support children's play and learning

Contribute to supporting bilingual/multilingual pupils
- Support a
child with disabilities or special educational needs
- Contribute to
moving and handling individuals
- Support individuals during therapy
sessions
- Support children and young people's play
- Provide
displays
- Invigilate tests and examinations
Course Delivery
Students
attend college one evening per week
Where a course is aimed towards an
assessment/examination, it is expected that all students will enter for
the qualification.
Method of Assessment
A full NVQ Level 2 is
achieved by the production of a portfolio of evidence, which proves job
competence (this includes assessments in the workplace) and a knowledge
and understanding of the role of the teaching/classroom assistant.
