Course programme

The course is aimed at therapists who want to develop their beauty spa therapy skills to include specialised services. The award is at Level 3 so enables the learner to become more independent and to support the management and supervisory skills within a spa salon. The aim of the course is to include the body aspect of beauty therapy to support industry and media driven requirements of the public.
Entry RequirementsNVQ Level 2 Beauty or equivalent and a satisfactory interview and reference.
Course Content
Candidates will need to achieve the mandatory units and two optional units.
Mandatory units (all units must be achieved)

G1 (001) Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health & Safety
G6 (006) Promote additional products or services to clients
G11 (011) Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
BT17 (317) Provide head and body massage treatments
BT28 (328) Set up, monitor and shut down water, temperature and spa facilities
BT29 (329) Provide specialist spa treatments
Optional (two units must be achieved)

BT16 (316) Epilate the hair follicle using diathermy, galvanic and blend techniques
BT18 (318) Improve body condition using electro-therapy
BT19 (319) Improve face and skin condition using electro-therapy
BT20 (320) Provide Indian Head Massage treatment
BT21 (321) Provide massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
BT30 (330) Provide UV tanning treatment
BT31 (331) Provide self tanning treatments
BT36 (336) Improve the appearance of the skin using micro-dermabrasion
G12 (012) Check how successful your business idea will be (SFEDI)

All learners have the opportunity to go on various industry related trips and visits Bellitas and Dermalogica Training enhance the core curriculum by bringing in industry experts.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is ongoing throughout the year with direct observation of skills in a practical setting, formal examinations, and completion of a comprehensive portfolio. This will include formative assessments in the manner of assignments, group work, poster work, presentations and task sheets.
What can I do next?
Employment in the spa beauty industry as salon manager, sales representative, therapist, trainer, industry assessor, technical advisor, spa manager, salon owner, cruise ship therapist. Students can also progress onto a variety of other courses including Level 4 Higher Professional Certificate/Diploma in Technical Salon Management, BSc in Complimentary Therapies, Indian Head massage, Reflexology or Aromatherapy or City & Guilds 7407 Assessor Award.
