Opportunities for progression to further qualifications

An increasing number of Level 3 learners are being accepted into Nursing, social
work and other health and social care related professions. Recommendations are for
unit achievement for the same level to suit Changing job roles, such as, from working
with individuals with learning. Difficulties to caring for the elderly, and for evidence
of CPD.

Structure of the NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care
The qualification has 2 pathways – Adults, and Children and Young
People. The qualification has core and optional units of which 8 units in Total must be
completed to achieve this NVQ, of which 4 core and 4 Optional units must be
completed for each pathway.

The units chosen must be appropriate for the work function and setting of the learners.
The optional units taken must be appropriate for the job function and care setting you
work in, therefore:
if the Adult route is chosen then optional units cannot be selected

From the Children and Young People route
If the Children and Young People route is chosen then optional
Units cannot be selected from the Adult route
There are also generic optional units, which can be chosen for either
Pathway.
Additional units may be selected for professional development, but
Do not count towards achievement of the qualification.
