These competence based programmes are aimed at those who either wish to train for work as a library assistant ot those working in the field already who want to consolidate their qualifications and experience. The NVQ 2 would benefit Library Assistants, whilst NVQ 3 is aimed at those working in a supervisory role. NVQ 4 is not currently available but enquiries to Roz Roberts.

Course Content
The programme emphasises the underpinning knowledge required to work effectively in a Library or Learning Centre.
Each level is divided into units covering topics such as:

·Customer Care·Reference Enquiries·Displays·Advising Customers·Collection Development·Providing a Quality Service·Team Building

How will I be assessed?
The programme is delivered in a flexible way with workshops, personal and group tutorials and distance learning support.
Written work produced is assessed and oral assessment takes place in workshops and tutorials.
Workplace practice is assessed by observation.
There are no exams.
Successful completion is subject to final submission of a portfolio of evidence.
Portfolio building support is provided.
What can I do next?
Candidates can progress through the levels depending on the appropriate level of work they are engaged in.
