The NVQ L3 Management Award is a nationally recognised qualification which aims to encourage development of critical, independent learners who can learn effectively in changing managerial circumstances. The Management Award assesses the knowledge and understanding of key management activities of supervisors and first line managers. It gives managers an opportunity to develop their performance on the job, become more effective and progress their career.

How does it work

The NVQ L3 Management Award can be provided through individual modules or as a complete programme leading to a full NVQ. To gain the full NVQ Award, candidates must complete four mandatory units and three optional units, allowing learning to be tailored to individual requirements or desires.

Mandatory Units are:

  • Manage your own resources and professional development
  • Provide leadership in your area of responsibility
  • Allocate & monitor the progress and quality of work in your area of responsibility
  • Ensure health & safety requirements are met in your area of responsibility

Optional units are taken from the more specialist area of first line management and include:

  • Promote equality of opportunity and diversity in your area of responsibility
  • Encourage innovation in your area of responsibility
  • Plan a change
  • Implement change
  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues
  • Recruit, select and keep colleagues
  • Provide learning opportunities
  • Manage a budget
  • Manage a project
  • Monitor and solve customer service problems
  • Work with others to improve customer service
