NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care

This qualification is based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) developed by TOPSS UK and Skills for Health. It includes social care and health units relating to both categories. The qualification helps learners understand the changing face of both areas and enables them to meet the standards needed to work in health and social care. The NVQ can also be used as an aid to occupational development.

Embedded within the units to be achieved are the essential Codes of Practice for working in the health and social care sector, and modern and innovative approaches to good practice.

Unit 1: The Customer Service Environment
Learners demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of customer services. They will show an understanding of how good practice can benefit customers and organizations and how systems, procedures, legislation and regulation can affect the delivery of good customer service.

Unit 2: Customer Service Skills
Learners demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in routine and different customer service situations. They will be able to demonstrate and understand the key steps in customer service transactions.

Why Should I Take this NVQ?

What Do I Need to Do?

The choice of units depends on the nature of your job role:

  • Social Care learners MUST complete all four mandatory units plus two optional units.
  • Health Sector learners complete two mandatory units and two drawn from either mandatory or optional ones.


Units to Success

The following is a list of the mandatory units. In addition, there is a range of 28 optional units.

  • Communicate and complete records for individuals.
  • Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals.
  • Develop your knowledge and practice.
  • Ensure your own action and support the care, protection and well-being of individuals.

NVQ LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

This qualification is based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) developed by TOPSS UK and Skills for Health. It includes social care and health units relating to both categories.The course is suitable for senior carers within any care setting, domiciliary care workers, healthcare assistants and team leaders.

Mandatory Units

Learners are required to complete three mandatory units and the single specialist unit. There are also various optional and generic optional units that can be combined as part of the course. Please ask about the availability of these when starting the course.

  • Reflect on and develop your practice.


Specialist Unit
Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals.

Optional Units

  • Contribute to care planning and review.
  • Contribute to planning, monitoring and reviewing the delivery of service for individuals.
  • Support individuals to access and use services and facilities.
  • Support individuals to develop and maintain social networks and relationships.
  • Support the social, emotional and identity needs of individuals.
  • Prepare your family and networks to support individuals requiring care.
  • Provide a home and family environment for individuals.
  • Contribute to the protection of individuals from harm and abuse.
  • Contribute to the prevention and management of abusive and aggressive behaviour.
  • Provide frameworks to help individuals to manage challenging behaviour.

To gain the full NVQ all three mandatory units plus the specialist mandatory unit and four adult optional and/or generic units must be achieved.

Level 2 NVQIT Courses are free. The learner’s contribution to the price of a Level 3 NVQ Course is £400.00 that can be paid by the learner or the employer.
