NVQ Level 2 and 3 Health & Social Care (Children & Adults)
City and Guilds NVQs in Health and Social Care
Level
2
The NVQ in Health and Social Care level 2 is intended
for learners who are currently working in a care role where they are
supervised by others.
You will compile a portfolio of 'evidence' to
demonstrate that you meet the criteria set out in the standards. These
standards are organised into units. To achieve the full level 2 award you
must either complete 4 mandatory units and 2 units from a choice of 27
optional units or 2 mandatory units and 4 optional units. The wide choice
of options helps you to tailor the course to your individual work role.
The
4 mandatory units are:
· Communicate with, and complete
records for individuals
· Support the health and safety of yourself and
individuals
· Develop your knowledge and practice
· Ensure your
own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals
Level
3
The level 3 award is for those who work unsupervised or
supervise others. At level 3 there are 2 qualification routes, one for
those caring for Adults and one for those caring for Children and Young
People.
Both of these routes share 3 mandatory units:
·
Promote effective communication for and about individuals
· Promote,
monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment
·
Reflect on and develop your practice
There is a mandatory
unit for the Adults route:
· Promote choice, well-being
and the protection of all individuals
And a mandatory unit
for the Children and Young People route:
· Promote the
well-being and protection of children and young people
To achieve the
full award at level 3 you must do 4 mandatory units (as above) and 4
optional units. The optional units are arranged into 3 categories: Adults
route (10 units), Children and Young People route (22 units), and Generic
(71 units). So plenty to choose from to match your individual work role.
The
Programme
Your NVQ will be designed to meet your
individual needs. Your assessor will guide you through the selection of
appropriate units and help you to plan the best way to gather evidence for
your portfolio. You will be observed at work and be able to contact your
assessor as you need to. You will work at your own pace to complete the
award. A good guide is between 3 and 6 months.
