NVQ LEVEL 2 HAIRDRESSING

Who is this course for?

Interview plays an important role in the selection of students. Early application is recommended. This qualification covers the essential skills required by a hairdresser and provides the foundation for developing a range of specialist skills at higher levels. Attending workplace is required during the course.

How long is this course for?

2 years during which you may spend one day per week on placement in local salons.

What will I study?
The following subjects may be covered:
  • Consultation
  • Shampoo and Condition Hair
  • Blow Drying and Setting
  • Basic Cutting
  • Perming Techniques
  • Basic Colouring
  • Reception Duties
  • Team Work
  • Health and Safety
  • Selling skills

You will also study Essential Skills which may include Personal Skills, Communication/Literacy and Numeracy

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical demonstration, oral questioning, assignment/project work, written tests and simulation. As a trainee hairdresser you will be required to carry out hairdressing treatments in a realistic working environment. You will also be required to promote all salon services and to bring in your own clients for assessment. Clients are charged a nominal amount for salon treatments.

What can I do after the course?

On successfully completion of this course you can progress to NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing or employment.
