NVQ Level 2 Nail Services

The level 2 nail services involves all general units, with reception duties, then manicure, pedicure, nail art and nail extensions. This is for those therapists that want to specialise in nail services to follow the increasing demand for these services within the industry sector.
This course is for learners who are interested in working in the ever changing nail industry in either nail bars, freelance, or going to work for Cruise ships or abroad. Learners need to have good attendance, time keeping and enjoy the rewarding challenge of offering the full compliment of nail services to the public.
Entry RequirementsFour GCSE's - on grade C and three grade D including English Language or equivalent. Acceptance will be by interview satisfactory reference and initial diagnostic assessment.
Course Content
Study areas will include:·Anatomy and Physiology
·Nail treatment related theory
·Customer service
·Reception duties at a level 2
·Health and Safety
·Laws and litigation
·Manicure and specialised treatments
·Pedicure and specialised treatments
·Nail Art to include overview of Airbrushing techniques
·Nail Extensions to include tip, tip and overlay, sculptured nails.
·Salon hygiene and salon management roles

All students will have the opportunity to go on various industry related trips and excursions and will be able to visit employers and have talks from employers through out their training. There are also competitions able students will be encouraged to participate in. This is a one year course which is normally taught over three days, although additional days through out the year may be required to attend or participate in specialised events. The timetable for learning for this programme, may include evenings and Saturdays, dependent on individual group.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is ongoing through out the year, with direct observation of skills within a practical setting, formal examinations, and completion of a comprehensive and ordered portfolio. This will include formative assessments in the manner of assignments, group work, poster work, presentations and task sheets.
What can I do next?
Progression with bridging unit onto NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy, or L3 Spa Therapy. Employment within the nail industry. It is also possible to seek employment as a nail technician, or begin a business as a freelance technician, or work for nail company.
