NVQ Level 2 Plant Operations - To gain Blue/Green Competence Card through on site assessment and Training.

Since the early 1990’s the Major Contractors Group (MCG) have been asking for their and their supply chain employees for proof of competence before allowing them access to site. This has been, in the majority of cases, individual ownership of a CPCS card.

It was quickly identified that much of the very experienced workforce could be lost to the industry as many of them had picked up their skills over many years, without the need for a qualification!

CITB/City & Guilds, the industries qualifications Awarding Body, responded to this situation by introducing OSAT (On Site Assessment and Training), as a route for these experienced workers to achieve an NVQ. This process involves an NVQ Assessor working closely with the candidate and employer to build a portfolio of evidence which will be generated from the workplace.

It is a speedy, efficient and unobtrusive process without the need of written exams or college attendance.

Course Information
The benefits of OSAT for Experienced Workers are:

  • Minimal disruption to their work.
  • In the majority of cases little or no time is spent away from work, normal work activities are observed and existing equipment used.
  • The companies existing administration and archive systems are used to produce evidence of the Candidates work competence.
  • Employees are more comfortable with the informal methods of Assessment, evidence collection and assessing their job knowledge without the need for a written test

The Course Includes:

  • Induction meeting (with the Candidates)
  • Registration of Candidate for the NVQ
  • Completion of CITB Skillmatch/Profiling
  • Provision of Portfolio and Assistance with evidence collection
  • On Site Assessment/Observation of each Candidate
  • Monitor and Review the Candidate’s progress
  • Complete claim form for achievement of NVQ Units
  • Internal Verification of Portfolio Assessments
  • Apply for Certificate of NVQ Achievement on completion

If you do not hold a Red Trained Operator Card or do not have 300 hours logged in your log book at the end of the NVQ you will need to undertake and pass an end test before you can apply for a CPCS Competence Card.
