NEW ENTRANTS
We recommend that new entrants undertake, as a minimum, the Technical Certificate in Plumbing Studies
(C&G 6129, Level 2), the recognised entry-level qualification for the plumbing industry, which teaches
theory and practical skills. Candidates may undertake the Certificate either as a stand-alone qualification, leading to the NVQ2, or as part of the Apprenticeship framework.
NVQ in Plumbing
C&G 6089 (Level 2)
The NVQ2 is a work-based qualification leading to qualified plumber statusʼ. It is achieved by building a portfolio to demonstrate practical competence in plumbing, which is then verified on-site by a WLT assessor.
Timescales for completion of the NVQ vary according to the range and type of work being undertaken by the candidate.
Materials
Relevant plumbing textbooks or manuals are provided to candidates, and additional training materials may be recommended. Tools and materials for use during wokshop sessions are provided by WLT. Candidates will need clothing and footwear suitable for workshop sessions.
