Course Content: The course programme is designed for people who wish to pursue a career in accounting and finance; are considering a career change to accounting and finance; or are already working in accounting and finance and are looking to make progress in their career. The course covers Cost, Financial Accounting Reports and Returns, and Information Technology applications in the Business Environment.

The course will develop your skills and knowledge in all aspects of accounting including double entry book-keeping, financial records, preparing accounts, health and safety and Sage Accounting System. A variety of teaching and learning methods will be delivered throughout the year such as projects, lectures and discussions.

The course will train you in the construction, closure and transfer of account balances, producing final accounts and understanding VAT.

Special Features: This is a full time course consisting of 14 hours of study. As well as studying for the NVQ in accounting students will also take OCR Level 2 accounting qualifications, IFS personal finance qualifications and ICT Level 2 in key skills.

Course Format: The course is assessed in college by realistic work situations and where applicable by Work Based Assessment. In addition there is a final assessment in the form of two external examinations on completion you will be awarded the NVQ Level 3 in Accounting which is a nationally recognised accounting qualification.

Progression: On successful completion of this course you can progress to NVQ Level 4 in Accounting. Once you have completed NVQ Level 4, you will be qualified to continue to study for the examinations of the Major Professional Accountancy Bodies.
