NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care Learning and Development

For experienced nursery workers and classroom assistants, this NVQ demonstrates a sound knowledge base and competency in looking after children. It is the equivalent of the NNEB, DCE or BTEC National Diploma and qualifies an individual to work as a nursery nurse or nursery officer and to supervise others.

The course involves study days one day per month - typically on a Saturday - comprising theoretical and practical input as well as observation in the workplace. Assessment is by workplace observations, carrying out practical tasks at work, answering questions and report writing.

NVQs are excellent work-based qualifications that provide evidence of competence in the workplace. They are available at various levels depending on an individual's role.

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Children's Care Learning and Development comprises:

• NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care Learning and Development.
• A Technical Certificate - Level 3 BTEC Certificate in Children's Care Learning and Development.
• Key Skills at Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number. This will involve multiplechoice tests in Communication and Application of Number.
• A 12 hour paediatric first aid course.
• Knowledge of employment rights and responsibilities.
