Children and Young People’s Workforce is designed for people who wish to work in the childcare sector. It is an ideal qualification for those looking to take the first step towards a career with children as a nursery assistant, crèche worker, playgroup assistant, childminder or nanny. Anyone working or planning to work in a range of childcare occupations needs to obtain the relevant qualification approved by Ofqual, the qualifications regulator. To work in a supervised capacity requires a Level 2 competence qualification for which this course is purpose designed.

About this course

By the end of your training, you will have an excellent understanding of the skills required by childcare professionals, along with a good knowledge of what makes for a thriving environment for the development of children and young people.

On this Children and Young People’s Workforce course you will gain:
an understanding of the role of learning and development in child care settings, and the legislative context within which child carers operate
an understanding of the personal and interpersonal skills required of a child carer at this level
an understanding of early education framework

This course is designed for people who would like to work in the childcare sector. Anyone wishing to embark on a career in childcare will benefit and it provides a start point to the formal qualifications required to work in the sector. It provides an ideal route into a career in child care and results in a recognised and accepted by Ofsted qualification which enables students to work competently in a supervised capacity with children.

You don’t need any prior skills in the subject area to start this course.

SECTION 2Contribute to the Support of Child and Young Person DevelopmentThe aim of this unit is for the learner to apply their knowledge and understanding in order to support child and young person development. The unit also includes support to children and young people experiencing transitions and positive behaviour support.
SECTION 3Safeguarding the Welfare of Children & Young PeopleThis unit provides the knowledge and understanding required for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.
SECTION 4Contribute to Children and Young People’s Health and SafetyTo provide learners with the knowledge and skills to contribute to supporting children and young people’s health and safety.
SECTION 5Contribute to the Support of Positive Environments for Children and Young PeopleThe purpose of this unit is to develop the learners understanding of why a positive environment is important to the individual needs of children and young people and the skills required to support this.
SECTION 6Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children and Young PeopleThis unit provides knowledge and understanding of the importance of partnership working and effective communication.
SECTION 7Support Children and Young People’s Positive BehaviourThis unit provides the knowledge, understanding and skills required to support children and young people’s positive behaviour. It requires demonstration of competence in supporting positive behaviour and responding to inappropriate behaviour.
SECTION 8Introduction to Communication in Health, Social Care, or Children’s and Young People’s SettingsThis unit is aimed at those who work in health or social care settings or with children or young people in a wide range of settings. The unit introduces the central importance of communication with a range of people in such settings, and ways to reduce barriers to communication. It also addresses the issue of confidentiality.
SECTION 9Introduction to Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s SettingsThis unit is aimed at those who work in health or social care settings or with children or young people in a wide range of settings. The unit introduces the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion which are fundamental to such roles.
SECTION 10Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children and young people’s settingsThis unit is aimed at those who work in health or social care settings or with children or young people in a wide range of settings. The unit introduces the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion which are fundamental to such roles.
SECTION 11Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young PeopleThis unit covers the competence required to maintain and support relationships with children and young people. It requires demonstration of competence in communicating with children and young people, developing and maintaining relationships with children and young people, and supporting relationships between children and young people and others in the work setting.
SECTION 12Promote Child & Young Person’s DevelopmentThis unit provides knowledge and understanding of how children and young people from birth to 19 years develop, including underpinning theoretical perspectives. It also includes actions taken when differences in development are identified and the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development.
