What You’ll Learn

We have devised a 10 week tiling training course which will provide you with training across a wide range of aspects, dealing with a wide variety of tiling materials and tools. The content for the first 8 weeks of this programme can be viewed on our NVQ Level 2 page and you will cover:

Week 1 will teach you tiling basics, starting from scratch you will learn how to tile both wall and floor areas and gain a complete understanding of the requirements for any area you are planning to tile.

Week 2 is an advanced training week, providing you with the skills to tackle more complex areas and giving you the opportunity to build on your speed, technique and confidence.

Week 3 is an assessment of your skills for which successful candidates will receive a City & Guilds certificate and portfolio detailing the work done.

Week 4 is where we cover tiling with natural stone products and we will teach you how to lay both marble and slate tiling.

Week 5 will teach you Waterproofing and Floor Screeding.

Week 6 is an assessment week working to specification in a fully fitted kitchen or bathroom area, faced with all of the problems a professional Tiler comes across when undertaking paid jobs.

How You’ll Learn

This is a massive programme of learning and you are monitored throughout the process by way of regular assessment. You will have constant guidance from the instructors whose sole aim is to get you to a point of being capable of completing level 3 tiling work in the future. This is a very practical course and you will frequently find yourself undertaking very demanding tiling tasks but once you see the end result – very rewarding.

It isn’t all just about practical skills, there is a huge emphasis throughout on cleanliness, health and safety and PPE and we will also demonstrate how to quote for jobs and how to quantify in order to place orders for materials etc. All of this additional course information will prove to be very useful when you have completed the course and start working and building your portfolio for NVQ level 3 achievement.

Courses Open To You After

The next step for you is to be assessed in the work-place to have your progress monitored and recorded in order to be certificated for the NVQ level 3. When work based assessments are required, we will arrange for our Assessors to visit you at your place of work. If you complete all of the NVQ units required and have provided evidence of this, Able Skills own Assessors and Internal Verifiers will make a decision on the portfolios completeness and eligibility for an NVQ.

Additional Info

There is no doubt in our minds that following this 10 weeks of intensive, hands on practical training that you will have the skill level to tile to level 3 standards but in order to achieve the NVQ in full, you need to prove your competence in a real working environment. To help you achieve this, Able Skills will register you for NVQ level 3 which will prove to prospective employers and clients that you have the tiling skill level to produce quality work.

NVQs are ‘Declarations of Competence’ and as such, cannot be achieved in a simulated environment like a training centre – all we can do here is prepare you for the process and we do this very well. At the end of the course we will provide you with a startup portfolio which will include all of the evidence and assessment sheets ready for you to use as and when you gather your work based evidence. By registering you for NVQ, you can also gain access to a CSCS Experienced Worker or Trainee card (if you arrange independently to sit a CSCS test) – this will further enhance your access to work.

This is a hands-on, practical tiling course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.

Not For You

If achieving NVQs isn’t something that you need right now but still want to learn tiling and achieve recognised certification then we would recommend that you consider our 6 Week City & Guilds Professional Tiling Course.

For those of you who are already Tilers but do not hold any qualifications then maybe you can consider being assessed by us to achieve NVQ – Either by the Experienced Worker route or by way of work-based assessment.

Duration & Cost

This is a 10 week course and the cost is £3495.00 including vat. A deposit of £500.00 will secure a booking with the balance payable in instalments.
