Course summary:
The South Tyneside Care Assessment Centre within the Department of Health & Care will provide a flexible programme to meet the underpinning knowledge for a wide range of units in order to complete an award which reflects differing care settings.
Course content:
The South Tyneside Care Assessment Centre has a wide knowledge of and experience in providing N.V.Qs in Care to Level 2 - Level 3 to meet the needs of the following care areas:-
* Mental Health both in hospitals and independent homes in the community
* Special Needs
* Residential Care
* Nursing Homes
* Voluntary Services
* Domicillary Care
* Acute Care ie hospitals including general, maternity and intensive care.
* Physiotherapy
These may not be applicable
A peripertetic Assessor is provided. The Assessment Centre's Internal Verifiers visit assessors and candidates in their workplace to provide support and assistance. This service is provided on a regular basis and/or additional visits are made by request as an integral part of the candidates programme. In this way links are forged and maintained between the Care Industry and South Tyneside College to create a partnership of assessment and learning for the benefit of the candidate.
The Internal Verifiers directly involved in providing support for both the assessors and candidates have extensive knowledge of and practical experience in the care field and are able to provide in-depth and credible advice in relation to N.V.Q.s in Care.
They are committed to achieving excellent completion rates, to a high standard whilst taking a common sense approach to the Care Awards.
Course structure:
Level 2 9 months - Half days to suit individual needs.
Level 3 12 months - Half days to suit individual needs. Entry September)
This is work based.
Assessment procedure:
The South Tyneside Care Assessment Centre has been approved to register, verify and certificate candidates for N.V.Q. Awards in Care. Assessment for Edexcel.
Entry requirements:
Students must be working in a care setting.

Progression opportunities:
Personnel within the Assessment Centre are practised in developing the underpinning knowledge for additional units to meet care settings which may not have been highlighted in the above areas
Free study and financial support:
Many part-time students at South Tyneside College do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, depending on the course and the number of hours a week you study, you may be eligible for an Adult Learners†Grant.
