Level: This is a Level 2 course.

What is the Supporting Teaching and Learning in School Level 2 course?
The Supporting Teaching and Learning in School course is aimed at candidates who are in a volunteer role directing support for teaching and learning in any type of school â€" primary, secondary, special or pupil referral unit. You should be working at least 7 hours per week in this context.

NB An interview is required before you can enrol on this course .

Course topics
You are required to complete 5 mandatory units:
  • Provide support for learning activities
  • Support children†s development
  • Help keep children safe
  • Contribute to positive relationships
  • Provide effective support for collegues
In addition, you will complete a further 2 units on topics on which your teacher will advise you.
Teaching and Learning
You will attend taught sessions at the College which will give you additional knowledge and skills to perform your role more effectively. You will also be visited in the workplace by your assigned assessor who will assess your practical competence and skills.
You will be expected to put aside at least 4 to 5 hours per week for private study.
Assessment details
Like all NVQs this qualification is competence-based. You will be assessed on your ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with your work. You will be given an OCR assessment pack and be required to produce a portfolio which will be internally and externally verified.

NB There will be no class on Thursday 16 and 22 October 2009
