Level: This is a Level 3 course.

What is a NVQ Supporting Teaching and Learning in School course?
This is a nationally recognised qualification which the government is recommending for all teaching assistants/learning support assistants. The course requires the achievement of ten units of competence from the national occupational standards.

It is ideally suited if you are a Teaching Assistant/Learning Assistant with responsibility for a varied range of pupil-based activities, working alongside your class teacher carrying out various tasks and demonstrating good practice.

NB An interview is required before you can enrol on this course .

Course topics

  • Help to keep children safe

  • Promote positive behaviour
  • Develop and promote positive relationships
  • Support the development and effectiveness of work teams
  • Reflect on and develop practice
  • Supporting pupils†with cognition and learning needs

Teaching and Learning
You will attend taught sessions at the College which will give you additional knowledge and skills to perform your role more effectively. You will also be visited in the workplace by your assigned assessor who will assess your practical competence and skills.

You will be expected to put aside at least five to ten hours per week for private study.

Assessment details
You will be given an OCR assessment pack and be required to produce a portfolio which will be internally and externally verified.
