Occupational Health Technician in Practice

This course is delivered in partnership with The University of Sheffield.

Overview of the course:

This short programme is aimed at those practitioners with no formal occupational health specialist qualification, but who contribute to the delivery of occupational health and safety services within an organisation. The programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to undertake basic occupational health and safety tasks within a define sphere of competence dependent upon their backgrounds.

Expected outcomes of this Programme:

On completion of the programme, students will be competent to undertake a range of activities either as a lone practitioner or as part of the wider multi-disciplinary occupational health team, including basic environmental risk assessments and routine health screening functions.

Overview of content:

The role and function of the Occupational health technician; boundaries of practice; health and safety legislation; basic environmental monitoring; routine health screening; records and confidentiality related to role function; referral to appropriate practitioner/agencies.

Mode of Assessment:

Formative portfolio.

Credit:

This short programme is offered as professional development only.

Those completing the course will receive a certificate of attendance.

Those wishing to gain academic credit may be able to submit anassignment and APL against an approved Unit of study.

Course Structure:

This is a 10 day, part-rime course. The course is delivered jointly by the University of Sheffield and the Health & Safety Laboratories (HSL) in Buxton. & days of study will be on the University Campus, and 3 days of study will be at the HSL Buxton.
