On our postgraduate degree in occupational therapy, you'll learn the theory and practice related to the profession and the underpinning recognition that every individual has the right to live a fulfilling life with meaningful occupation.

You'll also explore global health perspectives through engagement with the evidence base, exploration of policy and clinical practice. This will enable you to practice effectively in a range of social-cultural contexts, and with due consideration of individual needs and those of the wider healthcare community.

You'll participate in interprofessional education in both the University and in clinical practice settings, which will develop your team working, analytical, reasoning and judgement skills.

You'll gain first-hand experience and build your knowledge by working on live projects and compulsory clinical placements.
You'll be taught by specialist lecturers who work within the sector and can provide relevant, up-to-date information.
You may have the opportunity to engage in international experiences, developing your skills as a healthcare professional.
The alignment with our new pre-registration healthcare courses offers you a unique opportunity to gain a sound knowledge of the interprofessional approach to care delivery and the contemporary research relevant to your practice.

This course will prepare you to become a full-time occupational therapist, helping develop and maintain the daily living and work skills of people with physical, mental and/or cognitive disorders.

You must have an Honours degree with a 2:1 or above in a relevant subject area (for example, biology, nutrition science or health sciences).

You must also have GCSEs in mathematics and English at grade C or above.

Modules

The course includes a mixture of modules devoted to occupational therapy, and interprofessional modules which will develop core skills for healthcare practice alongside other students on our pre-registration postgraduate courses.

The profession-specific modules will explore the theory which underpins a holistic approach to occupational therapy practice and will include core topics such as principles of occupational therapy, biosciences, occupation-based assessment and interventions throughout the life span, and specific specialisms within occupational therapy for example neurological rehabilitation.
