What Will I Learn on this Course?
This course will allow students to develop knowledge and understanding of the Sports industry by using a variety of approaches that are relevant to the employment situation.
This will include presentations, group work, role-plays and written tasks. There will be an opportunity to visit sports organisations to gain up to date information for assignments.
Course Content and Method of Assessment
This is a one-year course where students will study 6 units - 4 mandatory and 2 optional choices. ALL units will be portfolio assessed and graded PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION.
Candidates must pass all 6 units to gain full certification.
Mandatory units are: The Sporting Environment; Health Safety & Prevention of Injury in Sport; Effective Leadership; The Body in Action. Optional units are sport skills and lifestyle and fitness.
Points will be awarded for each unit as follows: PASS 1 point; MERIT 2 points; DISTINCTION 3 points; to gain a full award at PASS level 6 points are required; MERIT 10 points and DISTINCTION 14 points. (all require a minimum of 6 unit passes)
All work will be internally assessed and moderated and a visiting external OCR moderator will moderate the final results.
A Merit is required to continue with Level 3 courses.
After the Course
Level 2 Nationals will allow progression onto employment at an operative level (leisure assistant, pool lifeguard, fitness assistant) or continue with level 3 education, if a Merit is achieved.
Subject Combinations
You may be able to combine this course with one AS level or one or two GCSE's. Different possible programmes of study will be tailored to individual needs.
