Are there any specific requirements?
To gain the full qualification:
Candidates must achieve 6 units made up of 2 Core units and 2 Optional units and the remaining 2 units can be taken from either the core group or optional group. If candidates are working in social Care’, it is advised by the social Care Councils that Candidates undertake the 4 core units in order to gain council recognition Candidates must be in a real work situation. This could be full-time, Part time job, voluntary work or work carried out when on work placement.
What is the course about?
This award is about direct care where the focus is on the development and maintenance of the client’s independence .The awarding body for this NVQ is Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR) and the regulatory body is the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). It is based on the National Occupational Standards developed by Skills for Health, Skills for Care (TOPSS).
How will the course be taught?
There will be both theoretical in-put and work place observation.
- You would be expected to seek support, advice or assistance if you are unclear about what to do.
- Candidates are required to build portfolios and complete the Cumulative Assessment Record (CAR)

Candidates are enabled and supported to undertake this qualification in addition needs of under-represented groups are addressed this include specific needs in relation to candidates from ethnic minority communities, experiencing disability, experiencing sensory impairment.
What is the Assessment Method?
Assessment is by collection of evidence through different methods Such as Observation, Professional Discussion, Questioning Candidate, Examination of work product and etc.
