Career Prospects and Progression

This course leads to a formal qualification for classroom assistants and support workers. It has been developed by OCR as an OPEN ACCESS course for those working to support the development of learning for students of all ages. Progression is to the Level 3 NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

Compulsory Units: Providing support for learning activities, Supporting children's development, Helping to keep children safe, Contributing to positive relationships, Provide effective support for your colleagues Optional Units: Support literacy and numeracy activities, Support the use of information and communication technology, Observe and report on pupil performance, Contribute to moving and handling individuals, Support children and young people's play, Provide displays, Invigilate tests and examinations

Method of Assessment

Assessment is based on a variety of methods: observation, witness testimonies, examining the evidence of work, personal statements, written answers to questions, photographs or video/audio tapes.
