OCR NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care

Are there any specific requirements?

To gain the full qualification, candidates must complete 8 units made up of 4 core units (including the choice of specialist route) and 4 optional units. Achieve the level of competence described in the NVQ units of competence.

Course requirements

- You do not have to pass a written examination or have any previous qualifications, learning or experience but every prospective candidate must attend a pre-course taster to confirm enrolment on this course.

- You must demonstrate that you have the skills, knowledge and understanding to the required standard.

What is the course about?

This award is about direct care, where the focus is hands-on care, doing things for clients and focusing on the development and maintenance of the client’s independence.

What is the learning outcome?

By the end of the course you should be able to do the following:

Provide support to the teacher in organizing the learning environment and maintaining records;

- Assist with the care and support of individuals and/or groups of pupils;

- Support in planning, delivery and evaluation of activities in your work place; and;

- Work effectively with colleagues.

How will the course be taught?

- There will be both theoretical input and work place observation.

- You will be expected to seek support, advice and/or assistance if you are unclear about what to do;

- You will be required to build a portfolio and complete the Cumulative Assessment Record (CAR);

- There is equality access for candidates regardless of work settings and patterns of work.

- Candidates are enabled and supported to undertake this qualification. In addition needs of under-represented groups are addressed, including specific needs of candidates from ethnic minority communities, candidates with a disability, and candidates with sensory impairment.

What is the Assessment Method?

Assessment is by collection of evidence through different methods such as observation, professional discussion, questioning, examination of work produced, etc.

What qualification will you get?

On completion of the course a candidate will be awarded an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

What is the next step?

After the course:

After successfully completing the course candidates can go on to register for the OCR Level 4 NVQ in Health and Social Care (Adults-05548)/ Children and Young People-05549), and could go on to do the A1 assessors course/ Registered Managers Award for Level 4NVQ in Health and Social Care.
