To meet your responsibility of ensuring that the members of staff who deliver the care service do so within an appropriate value base. Candidates must be in a real work situation. This could be full-time work, a part-time job, voluntary work or work carried out on work placement.

Candidates must achieve a total of ten units for a full NVQ. This is made up of four mandatory units and six optional units. For optional units candidates must choose:

- one unit from group A;
- one unit from Unit B;
- one unit from group C; and
- a further two units from groups A, B, C or D. ...

What is the course about?

This course is meant to provide managers with the skills and competence to meet the needs of the changing environment within care and social care. It also aims to meet the requirements of the legislative changes that are being implemented from time to time. Managers need to be competent in a wide range of areas including ensuring that care services are delivered within an appropriate value base.

How will the course be taught?

There will be both classroom tuition and observation in a work setting.

What is the Assessment Method?

There will be no examination. OCR methods of assessment suitable to this level will be applied, including:

- Observation by assessor of a candidate caring out his/her work

- Examining the evidence by an assessor

- Questioning the candidate or witness by an assessor

Other forms of suitable assessment methods include:

- Professional discussion of the evidence of the candidate’s performance and knowledge;

- Witness statements; and

- Personal statements.

Is there any additional cost involved?

Registration with the awarding body is separate from the main fees. This is published. The college will help you to register after you pay the fees.

After the course:

Candidates who are successful can go on to other OCR higher course or proceed to university onto degree courses in related area. There could be credit exemption.

Candidates could decide to gain certificate for individual units. There is an allowance for unit exemption where a candidate has obtained a unit certificate from another centre. A1 and V1 are no longer part of the optional units for RMA.
