About this course

The main objective of the Master's program is to provide multidisciplinary and specialized training in the field of legal and financial translation. This is to be achieved through the acquisition of knowledge and development of skills for professional performance in the field of legal and financial translation with appropriate rigor and professional ethics. The aim is for the students to acquire the following skills:
The ability to perform analyses of legal, court-related and financial documents from the point of view of translation studies, as well as applying the relevant translation techniques in order to produce an appropriate translation that meets the customer's requirements.
Gaining an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the differences and similarities between the various legal systems and concepts inherent to specific legal and financial sub-fields.
Understanding the economic and professional scope of the legal and financial translation market.
Understanding the methodological basics and principles of documentation and terminology, and being able to apply them to the craft of the legal and financial translator.
Learning how to handle computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and applying the necessary technological tools to optimize the translation process and increase productivity.
Planning and managing projects in legal and financial translation.
Learning about and applying the text proofreading and editing techniques.
Observing the code of ethics for the translation profession and grasping the ethical commitment entailed in the practice of it.

The Official Master's Degree in Legal-Financial Translation is intended for university graduates in various fields of knowledge, such as Translation and Interpreting, Philology, Applied Foreign Languages, Law, Economics and Business Administration with a thorough knowledge of their working languages (English and/or French) and of their mother tongue, wishing to become professionals, or enhance their career prospects in the field of legal and financial translation through high-quality training in this field.

Underpinned by a solid background in the fields of comparative law and finance, the Official Master's Degree in Legal-Financial Translation employs on a highly practical and professional training methodology for legal and financial translation. This Master's program offers two concentrations: English and the French-English double major.
Training is supplemented with internships in companies and organizations, as well as completion of Final Master's Project or Dissertation.

Our teaching methodology is designed so as to achieve the learning outcomes, thus comprising theoretical and practical classes, specialized seminars and in-company internships as well as national and international organizations. It combines classroom activities with other activities that the student can complete in a complementary way, within the workload allocated according to the respective number of ECTS. In order to facilitate student-lecturer relationship and ensure the proper development of these learning activities, the students have access to materials and reading assignments that the lecturers consider essential for each module through Comillas Pontifical University's SIFO (Comprehensive Online Training Solution) virtual platform.

In order to be awarded the Master's Degree, the students must pass assessments covering the study program through a mixed evaluation system. The lecturers in charge of each of the subjects and classes assess whether the student has achieved the relevant learning objectives. This evaluation takes place throughout the Master's program by means of continuous assessment and/or examinations, with the aim to verify that the student has developed the specific competencies associated to the subjects. Moreover, the student must write and publicly present and defend a Final Master's Project or Dissertation (6 ECTS), to be evaluated by a panel constituted to such end, which will contribute to the Master's final grade.

The Master's program is intended for university graduates wishing to supplement their training in order to work in the field of cultural mediation with a high level of professional excellence, perfectly combining their language-specific and legal-financial knowledge. To boost the employability of our students, the Master's includes an internship program in agencies and companies that collaborate in the organization of the program, which is integrated into its educational content for the purposes of the calculation of program credits. Moreover, the group and individual work carried out as part of the internship will be monitored within the company. Such monitoring is essential, as it will entail direct, active and individualized development of the competencies and skills that the student employs during the internship.
