This Oil, Gas and Energy Management course runs in 2016/17.

The rate of exploration and development of the world's energy resources is increasing rapidly. This course aims to prepare you for a successful career in the international energy industry, specialising in the oil and gas sector.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This course is designed to teach you about the processes, threats and opportunities that underpin the successful management of the international energy sector in the 21st century. You should also develop the skills required to support a range of exciting careers, from multinational energy companies to consultancies, government ministries and international agencies.

If you choose this course you will benefit from:

  • full professional accreditation by the Energy Institute (EI), the leading chartered professional body for the international energy industry (this includes free membership for the duration of your studies);
  • excellent employment prospects in national and international organisations concerned with the development, regulation and management of the international energy industry;
  • gaining an understanding of the key challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector in the 21st century;
  • the opportunity to obtain an IOSH-accredited Health and Safety Management certificate linked directly to the requirements of the Oil, Gas and Energy industry;
  • the chance to undertake, and support in applying for, work experience and professional training in a range of relevant organisations.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will start by exploring the fundamental issues of international energy management including the organisation and operation of the oil and gas sector, electricity production, petroleum geoscience and the management of natural resources.

In the second year you will extend your studies into areas such as finance and trading in energy commodities, quality & project management, energy policy and renewable energy. You will also develop analytical skills needed to undertake quantitative and qualitative investigations.

In your final year you will apply your knowledge to examples of managing energy futures in both developed and emerging economies, health & safety management, international management systems and environmental impact assessment. You will also have the chance to specialise in an area of your choice in your project.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Your course will be based on a series of lectures, with associated seminars, fieldwork and practical classes. In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice.
