Course programme

Earn while you learn on our distance learning course, which features on-campus residentials. Train as a dispensing optician and take the next step towards a rewarding career in eyecare.

Dispensing opticians have a vital role to play in community eye care. Our course will give you skills in professional practice, low vision and contact lens management, visual optics and ocular emergencies and ophthalmic lenses. Our course is unique in that it is aligned to meet the requirements of the General Optical Council Scheme for Registration for Dispensing Opticians* which means that on successful completion of the course you are eligible to register with the General Optical Council as a Dispensing Optician. There are no further exams to take with any other training institutions. So far we have graduated and had registered over 150 new Dispensing Opticians on our new course.

And because you're learning while you work, you'll be able to apply everything you learn to your own job, meaning you'll get the most out of your new skills immediately - and continue to use them throughout your career.

We understand that as a working professional, you can't necessarily follow a traditional academic year. That's why you'll do most of your studying by distance learning and take part in seminars, lectures and practical laboratory workshops during four residential placements at Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge.

When you graduate, you can study further to be a Contact Lens optician, and with the highest grades continue your studies with us to achieve a BOptom Optometry degree.

* Currently Anglia Ruskin University has Provisional Approval from the GOC as a Scheme Provider
