Course programme

This page describes the course that will run from February 2021. All information provided, including fees and additional costs, is specific to entry in the 2020-21 academic year. Information about the course that will run from February 2020 (the 2019-20 academic year) can be found in its Course Information Sheet (PDF). If it is still possible to apply for entry in the 2019-20 academic year, further information will be provided on the diplomas page on the school's website.

Taught in four modules of four days each and completed in one year, the Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership combines the academic rigour expected of a University of Oxford graduate-level qualification with a practical approach to the study of strategic management, organisational development and design, and leadership.

The modules currently offered are:

  • Leadership Fundamentals
  • The Strategic Mindset
  • The Strategic Leader
  • Leading Organisational Change.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership offers:

  • a graduate-level qualification from the University of Oxford which builds on your existing professional development and experience
  • a deeper understanding of how to manage people and organisations, and of your own approach to the complexities of strategic management
  • opportunity to undertake a group coaching session followed by a one-to-one with an assigned member of our coaching community
  • focus on the reality of leadership in hard times such as delivering the hard messages while maintaining motivation, and focusing on essentials
while watching out for other factors that could affect performance
  • access to top-level teaching from world-leading experts, drawing on the University of Oxford’s strengths in leadership and organisational behaviour
  • lifelong association with the university through the business school, university alumni networks and associate college membership, as well as a pathway to Oxford's Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA).

The Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership adopts an assessment regime that requires participants to take four courses and satisfy the examiners in the assessment associated with each core course. Assessment will be a combination of written examinations, and individual assignments.

Please note that this course is paperless. This means that paper handouts will not be provided for most of your courses. All presentations will be uploaded to our virtual learning environment. For pedagogical reasons this may be in advance of, just before or immediately after teaching sessions. Handouts will be provided for certain courses based on specific requirements, eg unreliable internet availability or where handouts operate more like a textbook than slides.

Changes to this course and your supervision

The University will seek to deliver this course in accordance with the description set out in this course page. However, there may be situations in which it is desirable or necessary for the University to make changes in course provision, either before or after registration. In certain circumstances, for example due to visa difficulties or because the health needs of students cannot be met, it may be necessary to make adjustments to course requirements for international study.

Where possible your academic supervisor will not change for the duration of your course. However, it may be necessary to assign a new academic supervisor during the course of study or before registration for reasons which might include sabbatical leave, parental leave or change in employment.

For further information, please see our page on changes to courses.
