Course programme
1. KS1 - Using maps and plans
This unit introduces the pupils to a range of maps and plans via a hide and seek game. Beginning with a large colour coded plan of the classroom, pupils take it in turns at hiding objects around the room and marking their position onto the plan. The seekers then have to read the plan and locate the objects. This is then extended to the study centre and then to the walled garden area.
Outside the pupils will work in small groups each requiring a responsible adult.
This unit supports :-

2. KS2 - An introduction to Orienteering
This unit is aimed at real beginners with little or no experience of the sport. There is an introductory question trail using a map of the walled garden. Pupils learn to interpret map symbols, locate their position, how to set/orientate their maps and how to plan and follow a route. This progresses to 'star' orienteering activities that become more complex.
