Course programme
Our Paediatric First Aid course is designed to train individuals to provide immediate first aid care for infants and children.
It meets the first aid requirements of Ofsted for the Early Years Foundation Stage standards, the National Childminding Association, the Pre-School Learning Alliance, and the Department for Children, Schools and Families Surestart guidelines for Paediatric First Aid. Therefore it meets the first aid requirements of the Department for Children, Schools and Families for First Aid in Schools.
In addition to basic life support skills for infants and children this course also includes adult basic life support skills and therefore meets the recommendations of the HSE Health and Safety at Work (1981) Regulations for Appointed Persons in the Workplace.
Course Outline
- The course meets all the criteria laid down in Appendix 1 of the Early Years Foundation Stage Practice Guidance with the following course outline:
- Legal framework, & responsibilities
- Priorities of First Aid and managing incidents
- Resuscitation (CPR)
- Treatment of an unconscious casualty & shock
- Treating & controlling wounds and bleeding
- Illness/injury assessment & treatment
- Child related medical conditions including asthma, meningitis, diabetes, anaphylactic shock and seizures
