This 12 hour Paediatric First Aid course is designed for individuals who work with young children and was developed to meet the course programme as laid down by the ncma, Pre-School Learning Alliance, Ofsted and Sure Start to meet the requirements of the National Standards for the purpose of registering as an early year's professional.

This course is designed for all Child Carers who work with young children and require the necessary knowledge to cope with an emergency, and to be able to recognise and respond to the emergency needs of a child with chronic medical conditions or who injure themselves.

All childminders in England and Wales are required to have a valid early year's paediatric first aid qualification preferably upon registration if not within six months of receiving their registration certificate.

  • Management of the sick or injured child
  • Paediatric First Aid Kit aid contents
  • Keeping Records - accident book and medication book
  • Primary Assessment
  • Management of an unconscious child and infant
  • Recovery position
  • Resuscitation CPR - Adult / Child & Baby
  • Airway disorders including: Choking - Adult / Child & Baby, asthma and croup
  • Treatment of shock
  • Treatment of burns and scalds
  • Electric shock
  • Poisoning
  • Febrile convulsions
  • Management of the epileptic and diabetic child
  • Head injuries & spinal injuries
  • Management of wounds and severe bleeding
  • Injuries to bones, joints and muscles
  • Foreign bodies in eyes, ears and nose
  • Bites & stings
  • Meningitis
  • Sickle Cell Anaemia
  • Anaphylactic shock and the Epi-pen
  • Extremes of body temperature - heat & cold

Course Duration

  • 2 x 6 Hours or 4 x 3 Hours

Course Material

  • All delegates receive a comprehensive Emergency Paediatric First Aid Book at the start of the course.

Assessment

  • All delegates are assessed as to their competency by continued assessment throughout the course.

Certification

  • A certificate is issued to all delegates who completes the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years.
