The course is designed for Child Carers who work with young children and require the necessary knowledge to cope with an emergency and be able to recognise and respond to the emergency needs of a child with chronic medical conditions or injure themselves. The course is also ideal for babysitters, parents and grandparents.
Introducing the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register (OCR)
The voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register (OCR), which was introduced in April 2007, has now replaced the Childcare Approval Scheme (CAS). As from 1 October 2007, the CAS no longer accepts any new applications. Existing approvals under the CAS will expire one year after they were issued.
Course Content:
- What to do in an emergency
- Management of the sick or injured child
- First aid priorities - Primary assessment
- Management of an unconscious child and infant
- Recovery position
- Resuscitation (CPR) - Baby & Child
- Airway disorders including choking, asthma and croup
- Treatment of shock
- Treatment of burns and scalds
- Poisoning
- Management of wounds and severe bleeding
- Head injuries
- Eye & Ear injuries
- Injuries to bones, joints and muscles
- Anaphylactic shock and the Epi-pen
- Childhood illnesses including Meningitis and Seizures (Febrile Convulsions)
Course Duration
- 1 x 6 Hours or 2 x 3 Hours
Course Material
- All delegates receive a comprehensive Emergency Paediatric First Aid Book at the start of the course.
Assessment
- All delegates are assessed as to their competency by continued assessment throughout the course.
Certification
- A certificate is issued to all delegates who complete the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years.
