- HEST 5001 Research Designs in Health
This module is designed to consolidate and/or develop basic knowledge in research methods.

- MPHE 5007 Dissertation
This module is designed to provide students with the opportunity to undertake a major piece of original research, which will incorporate and test both the academic and practice elements of the course.

MSc Palliative Care Optional Modules
- MPHE 5301 Principles and Practice of Palliative Care
This module aims to enable the student to explore and critically evaluate the principles and practice of palliative care within a holistic framework of care. The module will enable the student to reflect upon the knowledge and skills required to provide excellence in end of life care in a range of settings including the care of teenagers and young adults.

- MPHE 5206 Advanced Communication Skills
This module will enable students to explore the challenges to effective communication at end of life. It will encourage participants to critique and challenge their own communication style and to utilise and apply skills and strategies to enhance their ability to elicit and respond to patients’ concerns and emotions and deal more effectively with difficult communication situations.

- MPHE 5314 Symptom Management in Advanced Disease
This module aims to enable the student to develop a detailed understanding of the causes, presentation, assessment and management of symptoms associated with advanced life-limiting illness. The module explores issues relevant to patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses. It will enable the student to reflect upon the knowledge and skills required to provide effective symptom management to a range of individuals with palliative care needs including teenagers and young adults.
30 credits - MPHE 5311/12 Independent Study in Palliative Care
This module allows you to select a particular aspect of palliative care to study in detail. There are no taught sessions for the module but you will be allocated a personal tutor who will guide and support you in establishing your focus during the module and the related learning outcomes. Regular meetings with your personal tutor will be available throughout. This module is particularly appropriate if there is an aspect of your professional practice you would like to explore and evaluate or if there is an area of interest you would like to develop which is not addressed within the programme’s taught modules.
