Gearing up your Driver and Working Hours Legislation
The Northern Logistics Academy is a logistics and transport training specialist, based in the Northwest of England, delivering sector specific training and qualifications. We are JAUPT approved for the delivery of Driver CPC periodic training courses.
If you drive a lorry, bus or coach as the main part of your job, it is a legal requirement that you must hold the full Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
To gain this you must do either 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years or, 7 hours training per year in order to maintain your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence.

Course programme
This course will guarantee that as an employee, you have a solid understanding of the EU driver's hours, the European Agreement Concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport (AETR), Working Time Directive (WTD) and GB domestic rules.
The workshop will cover the following modules:
- Overview of Legislation: outlining the importance of driver hours and the WTD, the impact it has on their work life and the importance of staying legal.
- Understanding the EU Rules: updated legislation covering EU rules, to provide a solid understanding of the requirements for driving, breaks and rests period.
- The Driver and The Working Time Directive: familiarisation with Working Time Directive (Road Transport Directive) and a refresher of the basic rules that apply regarding the driver dovetailing the WTD with the EU hours and recognising infringements.
- Applying the EU Rules: delivering a practical understanding of the rules covering EU driver hours.
- Understanding the GB Domestic Rules: providing an in-depth insight into GB domestic rules, in order that you comprehend duty time, daily driving time and what breaks and rest periods are required.
- What you need to know about Tachograph rules: understand the methods of recording and maintaining driver records for both GB domestic rules and EU regulations including infringements and enforcements.
- Responsibilities and Penalties: an overview of the responsibilities of the driver and the operator and to understand how the legislation is enforced and the penalties associated with infringements.
