Course description
You will study two units:
In Unit 3 students are introduced to a range of themes and controversies in world archaeology, building on the knowledge and skills gained on the completed AS course. In the first part, Section A, â€OEThemes in World Archaeology†, students are required to study at least two of three set themes (People and Society in the Past, Sites and People in the Landscape, or Economics and Material Culture). In the second part, Section B, they will look at â€OEContemporary Issues in World Archaeology.â€
In Unit 4 the students will carry out their own individual â€OEArchaeological Investigation†. They will need to identify a suitable archaeological topic, carry out an investigation of this topic, and report the results in a written and illustrated presentation of about 3500-4000 words. Students have always found this part of the course both exciting and challenging as it involves them in their own research and fieldwork and does not involve sitting an examination.
