Entry is open, but the normal route to Level 3 is through completion of AAT Foundation NVQ Level 2. Applicants with GCE A Level passes in Accounting or in two other academic subjects may be eligible for exemption from the Foundation Level and could start at NVQ Level 3.
Mature applicants who are capable in terms of accounting experience may be accepted directly onto this level via the AAT Mature Entrant route for students over 21 years with at least 4 years relevant work experience prior to registration.
Suitable For
At Intermediate Stage students will achieve competence which involves the application of accounting knowledge in a broad range of work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts most of which are complex and non-routine. There is considerable responsibility and autonomy.
Course Content
The course covers the following units:
Unit 5 Maintaining Financial Records & Preparing Accounts
Unit 6 Recording and evaluating costs & revenues
Unit 7 Preparing Reports & Returns
In addition, if you have not completed the Foundation level the AAT requires you to show competence in the following units:
Unit 21 Working with computers
Unit 22 Contribute to the maintenance of a healthy, safe & productive working environment
These two units are not included but assistance to help you complete them will be provided; please note that you will have to pay for the additional simulations, currently £17 each.
Method of Assessment
There are two types of assessment:
- Simulations
Evidence from the workplace or simulations of real work activities - Computer Based Examination
An examination based assessment that you will complete at a PC in the College; results will be available the same day
Progression
On successful completion of the AAT NVQ3 Intermediate Stage, students may wish to make the normal progression onto AAT NVQ4 Technicians Stage.
