About this course

Accounting can be taken at AS Level without prior study of the subject. Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.

A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications. Studying Accounting helps to develop a number of skills valued by employers including the ability to organise and analyse information, to work under pressure and to meet deadlines, as well as proving a high level of numeracy. Jobs where accountancy would be useful include, commercial banking, financial services, insurance work, pensions and actuarial work.

Modules

The AS Level is presented in 3 modules. Module 1 - Financial Accounting. Module 3 - Financial Accounting: Determination of Income. Module 4 - Introduction to Accounting for Management and Decision-making. The A2 Level is presented in 3 module. Module 5 - Further Aspects of Financial Accounting. Module 6 - Published Accounts of Limited Companies and Accounting Standards. Module 7 - Further Aspects of Accounting for Management and Decision-making.

Method of Assessment

Each module in both AS and A2 has a written examination, the AS examinations will be for one hour and the A2 examinations will be for one hour and fifteen minutes.
