Description
The Association of Accounting Technicians is a professional body for accounting technicians, founded in 1980, to provide a recognised qualification that has an established reputation with industry and commerce. The AAT is a membership body for accounting support staff in accounting practice, industry and commerce and the public sector. The five major accounting bodies sponsor the AAT.

Course Length
One year - one day per week.

What will I study?
The programme is the first stage of the three stages of NVQ Accounts qualifications. The course gives a foundation to help build skills and knowledge for employment or NVQ Levels 3 and 4.

Unit 1 Recording Income and Receipts

Unit 2 Making and Recording Payments

Unit 3 Preparing Ledger Balances and Initial Trial Balance

Unit 4 Supplying Information for Management Control

Unit 21 Working with Computers

Unit 22 Contribute to the Maintenance of a Healthy, Safe and Productive Working Environment

Unit 23 Achieving Personal Effectiveness


How will I learn?
A variety of teaching methods are used, including formal teaching, guided/individual work and workshops.

How will I be assessed?
By portfolio of work prepared and assessed in-course: by devolved assessments set by AAT by a central three-hour exam set and marked by AAT.

Where could it lead?
Natural progression to Level 3 and 4 Accounting.

Requirement
No formal entry requirements, although a reasonable standard of numeracy is expected. Students are advised to contact AAT for advice about joining the Education and Training Scheme. The Programme Leader will give all students individual advice. Students must register with AATs Education and Training Scheme for which an annual subscription is payable. The purchase of study packs and workbooks will be required.
