Is this course right for me?

The course is intended for vocational teachers and support staff who wish to work with learners in the classroom to develop their Literacy skills.

What will I be learning?

You will attend a weekly session where the Adult Literacy Core Curriculum will form the basis of the course structure.

There are five units which cover development of your own skills, understanding of barriers to learning; the history in the English language and the social context of language use. The fifth unit is related to supporting Literacy in the classroom.

How will I learn?

Each unit will be assessed by assignments or an externally set exam. In addition two portfolios relating to unit one and unit five will have to be produced.

You will be observed on at least three occasions by tutors, and you will observe specialist tutors on three other occasions.

What else might I want to know?

In addition to the level three Literacy Support qualification you will also gain a level 3 Key Skill in Communication.

What can I do afterwards?

You may wish to undertake an appropriate teacher training qualification such as Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)or The Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS.
