You will also work with the wide variety of animals here at Kingston Maurward College.
The NVQ level 2 forms part of the Apprenticeship scheme: to complete the whole apprenticeship, you will also need to gain key skills and industrial certificates.

What qualifications will I need?
Good standard of written work, interest in animals and working in the industry. NVQ 1 or GCSEs grade D to E.
What will I be learning about?
- Maintaining the health and well'being of animals
- Reception
- Record keeping
- Health and safety
- Maintaining animal accommodation
- Moving, exercising and restraining animals
- First Aid at Work
- Safe lifting and manual handling
- Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and ICT
What is involved?
11 units to complete, consisting of 5 core and 6 optional. Each subject will be delivered and assessed one at a time. College day release will be partly theory and partly practical.
Where will it take me?
Progression onto NVQ level 3 (Advanced Apprenticeship) if you gain employment or training with supervisory responsibility. Employment within the sector or allied industries.
What else does the course include?
Key skills: Level 1 Application Of Number. Communication.
What materials are required?
Writing materials. Protective overalls (when there is a practical element). Steel toe'capped boots.
What is next?
NVQ Level 3 in Animal Management or Dog Grooming. Full time courses ' Advanced National Certificate Animal Care or National Diploma Animal Management. Part time ' National Certificate Animal Care or National Awards.
How will I be assessed?
Practical assessment supported with written evidence in a portfolio.
